SCAHL Annual Awards

The SCAHL Awards program has a 10 year history of recognizing outstanding hockey and off-ice achievements of  league participants.  Each award is based on a vote of the division's coaches from players nominated by each team.  The 2008 Award recipients will be announced on April 16 after team award banquets have concluded.

Top Scorer - This award is based on regular season points totals, and the 2008 winners are:

Pee Wee AA - Luke Philp Bow Valley Timberwolves - 87 points.

Bantam AA - Landon Sjogren Foothills Bisons - 68 points.

Midget AA - Darren Andre Lethbridge Hockey Hounds - 78 points.

Most Sportsmanlike Player - This award is based on the players positive approach towards teammates and competitors, coaches and officials.  It recognizes the qualities of fair play and good sportsmanship  in a competitive approach.

Most Valuable Forward - This award recognizes the forward who, through contributions on the ice, had the greatest impact on his teammates and teams performance.

Best Defenseman - This award recognizes the defenseman who, through contributions on the ice, had the greatest impact on his teammates and teams performance.

Best Goaltender - This award is meant to recognize the goaltender whose performance is rated as being the most outstanding in the league.  It is not based on statistics alone, but on the impact that the goaltender had in effecting the outcome of games.

Most Exemplary Player - This award is presented by the SCAHL Board of Governors, and recognizes the player who best exemplifies proficiency in hockey performance; sportsmanship; contributions towards team; high quality life skills and scholastic performance.

Lethbridge BAA Raiders Take Silver at Provincials

The Lethbridge Headwater Equipment Raiders were Silver Medalists at the Hockey Alberta Investors Group Bantam AA Provincial Tournament.  After successfully winning the semi-final game with Calgary 3-2, the Raiders fell in the Championship match 6-0 to Sherwood Park.  The SCAHL was also represented in the tournament by the Brooks FX Stitch Outlaws, who with a 2-1-1 round robin record, missed the play-offs under the tie breaker, and the Red Deer Steel Kings.  The SCAHL congratulates all 3 teams on their successful tournament.
